At Native Texans Grow and Design, we don't fight the Texas climate. We work with it. Based in Kemah, we design and build outdoor spaces that look stunning year-round and hold up to everything the Gulf Coast throws at them: the heat, the storms, the clay soil, the drought.
With 30 years in the industry, Billy designs and builds native, tropical, traditional, and modern landscapes, plus artificial turf. We source from local Gulf Coast growers whenever possible, which means better-adapted plants and a finished product that actually belongs here.

September 2026
Full front bed rebuild in Kemah 77565. We stripped out the tired dark mulch, reshaped the bed line, and set steel edging to hold a clean curve against the lawn. Planting is Gulf Coast native and pollinator friendly: purple coneflower, dwarf yaupon, ornamental grasses, and low shrubs, all on a drip line so it establishes without hand watering. Along the foundation we ran a river rock channel with chopped limestone edging to carry downspout water away from the slab.

Front yard reset on Sleepy Creek in Houston 77017. The old foundation planting had grown in on itself and the lawn was thinning under mature oaks, so we cleared the beds back to soil and rebuilt the whole front. A white river rock dry creek now runs the length of the house to move roof and yard water off the foundation, anchored with sandstone boulders and wrapped in fresh hardwood mulch beds that follow the tree line.

Poolside and deck-side native bed build on Brookforest in Clear Lake. We cleared out the overgrown ivy and weeds, reshaped the beds, and rebuilt them with chopped limestone edging, river rock borders, fresh mulch, and accent boulders. Planting is all Gulf Coast natives and heat-hardy color: muhly grass, firecracker plant, blue plumbago, and rosemary, chosen to hold up around a pool with almost no watering once established.

Small native design refresh along the side yard: agave, prickly pear, Mexican bird of paradise, and coreopsis planted into fresh mulch beds with a boulder accent and clean brick edging. Proof a native bed doesn't need to be huge to make an impact.

We layered firecracker plant, blue plumbago, lemon coral sedum, cordyline, and moss rose over fresh mulch, with accent boulders for structure. Full pergola redesign on an existing flagstone patio. We rebuilt the structure with custom archways, painted lattice panels, a stone fountain wall, and low-voltage lighting along the base. Same footprint, completely different feel.
